in Credit cards
I have a very poor credit history but am self employed. I am tackling the debt (ironically much quicker than I ever was employed as I earn much more now) but for now my credit history is still bad.
I don't have any credit cards any more as part of my journey, however for work it would be very useful- I travel a lot as part of my job and recently got into a pickle in America when I tried to check into my hotel without a credit card for incidentals.
I only want to use it for booking flights and hotel check ins where a credit card is needed- I don't intend to spend anything on it as such. But realise I can't really explain that to a credit card company!
If I am unable to get a personal credit card should I assume there is no business card available to me? Are there lenders I could try?

Business are also subject to credit checks. How long has it been trading? What do the accounts look like? Your first conversation should be with the institution that provides your business banking as they have a view of your business financials.0

Been trading (sole trader) since March, just filed my first self assessment- although bulk of trading will be in next year's return obviously. Accounts generally good, been making money since launch (it's a service based business so almost all profit from day one).
My business account is with Mettle, they don't offer a credit card themselves but they are a NatWest company- it seems highly unlikely to me that NatWest would ever give me credit! My credit rating has been so poor for so long that I have discounted all "regular" and high st banks. But I will try them in the first instance. Thanks0 -
Ah! OK. As a sole trader your personal credit standing will be assessed as you and the business are effectively the same entity. (If it were a LTD Co the company finances and you personal finances would be separated) If your personal credit standing is not too good at the moment then the chances of you getting a credit card are slim.0
