Unauthorised contract

I own a small business (gym) and recently went to renew my electricity contract with EDF to be told I couldn't as my 'new suppliers', British Gas, are taking over and therefore have put a block on it. To cut a long story short, it turns out a broker called Bionic set up a contract with me and BG without me even knowing, never mind agreeing! On the paperwork it shows a contact agreed date of 22/12/22 and I can prove I didn't take any calls on that date! Apparently Bionic were emailing me on my old, defunct email. It must have been a case of 'no reply, contract agreed'. My husband spoke to Bionic weeks ago who said they would cancel the contract as it was a cooling off period. However, they never did, and I was emailed today by both British Gas and Bionic to say the supply has started today. Two days ago I emailed Bionic to ask them to please cancel it as they had said they would, but I haven't received a reply. What can I do?! I don't want to pay BG prices and I never agreed to the contract.

  • Do you have legal cover or support for your business?  It's a B2B contract so you can't rely in consumer law to help, it will be down to disputing the contract, using a solicitor if needs be.

If you agreed the contract with Bionic / BG at the end of December, nearly a year ago, why is the contract only starting now?
Or is there a typo in the date?

Regardless, based upon my experience with EDF, you may have dodged a bullet.
