It may be possible to get a painter to go over all the decorations with a couple of coats of white emulsion fairly cheaply. Depending on how it looks at the moment, that may make it easier to sell and get a comparable increase in price.
I wouldn’t ask the estate agent. They are biased, as they can sell anything at the right price, and they don’t want to wait while you get work done.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -
When I inherited something similar, I'd time on my hands. Four agents gave me prices ranging from £115k to £125k as is, or maybe £140k if renovated.I renovated, but it took 9 months, as a few issues came up - don't they always! Then I had an issue with a buyer, so selling took another 6 months. I got £148k and probably 'made' £20k after costs, but prices were rising over those 15 months.Was it worth it? Frankly, no, especially as the market tanked just after I sold, and my own house sale, delayed by the renovation, suffered in the financial carnage that followed.Right now, we're living in interesting times again.
