Being fired

Being fired next Wednesday from job of 17 years due to son growing weed in my garden (I’m civil service). I’ve always been ‘the guy’, help anyone, do random shifts, come in early, work Christmas Day and am very good at my job. I’m going to have to sell my house now as I’ve had a few interviews for other work but as I’m 8 years off retirement no one seems interested. Union seems ineffective and can’t afford a lawyer. Any advice appreciated, even if you can give me some big final speech ideas.

Are there specific rules that apply to Civil Service employees regarding criminal activities of relatives? What did your dismissal letter say?0

Suspect there must be more to this story than posted.4

Some good brains on here so I'm sure you'll get help but I do agree there has to be a lot more to this, and even the process. More info you can give the better people can help.0

I think you'll need to explain why you're getting sacked for something your son has done.Or, is it you who has maybe been arrested and you're blaming it (rightly or wrongly) on your son? But, of course, we're guessing and no-one can help you unless you tell a bit more about what has happened.0

As others have said, what's the rest of the story?Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
I don't normally comment on employment issues but you should know that if you have been dismissed unfairly then you have 3 months from your employment ending to start a claim for unfair dismissal.
Also it does not follow that if you lose your job, you have to sell your house. If you are having difficulties with the mortgage please post on debt-free wannabe, which is where I normally lurk0 -
Something doesn't add up with this one...0

I sense this is the first instalment in a story of why the OP is being dismissed.1

I've enjoyed the pilot episode - a few intriguing plot lines set up.
Not sure where the story's headed but I'll willing to stick around for at least the next couple of episodes.1
