Red Light Camera

I was driving today and was at a crossroads waiting to turn right on a traffic light junction. As the flow of traffic that was coming from in front of me stopped, the car I was behind stalled before moving off again.

However as I turned right into the road I was going into the traffic lights had already turned red. If I had stayed where I was I would have blocked the road.When I turned into the road I noticed a red light camera facing me, but I have always been lead to believe they only work from behind not the front. So I guess what I’m asking is, would the red light camera have caught me turning into the road going towards it or would it only be for people who are coming out of the road I was turning into? If that makes sense.

I’m just worrying now in case I get a fine.

Honest answer, I don't know. 

But as I understand it if the light changes halfway through and you are causing an obstruction, then if it safe to do so, you have to go through. I don't know if you will get a fine or not but if you do you can always try to explain and mitigate it?

P.s I would of done exactly the same.

Looking at the camera on Google street view it looks like it was a Gasto camera which can only work from the rear but I was coming to it side on so I’m hoping I’m okay

1. Yes, red light cameras work from behind, so they can capture both your vehicle and the red light.

2. The offence is only committed if your car (any part of it) crosses the stop line on red. Or indeed on amber, although the cameras are not set up for that.

If you had already crossed the stop line before the lights turned red you where entitled to proceed.
There is a set of lights near me that has a right hand turn area but the oncoming traffic their green stays on for longer so when you finally make the turn the red has been on for sometime

It would help insofar as it might show that the OP thought that their car had crossed the stop line before the lights changed?

A dashcam that knows what the driver is thinking?

It might support the OP's statement that the car in front of them stalled which led to the prolonged time in exiting the junction.  It would certainly help clarify what actually happened and whether the OP's perception was correct.

The OP is worried about being caught by a red light camera.

If he was indeed captured crossing the stop line on red, then what happened afterwards is utterly irrelevant.
