Parking ticket whilst broken down at service station.

Hi. My car was cutting out and overheating near a service station .  I managed to get parked as my car broke down . It was early evening .
I phoned the RAC and went for a coffee and explained to the young lad that I was awaiting the RAC and asked did I need to do anything . He replied no.
I ended up over two hours and I received a letter saying I owed them a fine . I challenged this , saying I didn’t see the signs about parking as I drive in as I was concentrating on trying to get my car to a safe place . I offered to pay the £13 which it would have cost saying if I’d have known I would have paid it .
I couldn’t get in touch with anyone over the phone .I lost my  appeal . I E mailed asking for someone to contact me and tried to pay £13 but it would only accept the full fee of the fine . I have now received another bill for £170 .
I ve been told because I was honest and explained my situation I was admitting liability and I have to pay fine otherwise I can be taken to court. Can any one tell me , is this true ?

  • What fine? Show us where the word "fine" is mentioned in any of the correspondence.

    You don't have to pay.

Just get the Services to cancel it.  Easy!

Is this ParkingEye, CP Plus or who?

When exactly did they reject the appeal?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I saw your comment about Citizen's Advice on another thread; don't waste your time; they are good at some stuff but not parking issues.
  • So I appealed to Popla , it was rejected . They wanted 28 days for me to pay. I asked for them to contact me to discuss . They didn’t contact me just sent a higher fine   .  now CP Plus are saying I have 14 days to pay.
I spoke to an advisor who said they will take me to the small claims court and win as my appeal was denied , so a judge would probably follow.

    Please explain. What case??
    What happened on 29th July?
Cryptic comments like that help no-one.

An 'advisor' at CP Plus said they would win at court?
    What else could he say?
He couldn't say "don't pay us anything. We will lose at court", could he?

The advice here is to never ever phone a parking company or their agents.
  • I phoned a workplace advisor . I was unable to contact CP plus. I was unaware what to do and thought the right thing was to appeal .
  • CSe date was written in their paperwork along with the reference.  Sorry. I’m new to all this so I apologise for not giving the right information .

Hopeless advice - forget that 'adviser'.

You need to read the NEWBIES thread instead.

    You won't be paying.
