Where to advertise a car, to avoid timewasters?

Selling a car with a fault is a magnet for time wasters and chancers. Personally I’d get it repaired if the cost was £1-1.5k and the car was in otherwise good condition with reasonable mileage so it should sell easily. If it’s a bit rough/high mileage WBAC just to be shot of it.0

A running, low mileage Prius in good condition should sell pretty well to people wanting a decent car. If WBAC are offering £3500 running you can presumably get at least £4000 for it privately, somewhere like local facebook selling groups.A non-running car is mostly going to attract chancers and Del boys - people who'll try and buy it from you for scrap value to bodge and sell on again.
I'd check elsewhere and see what it'd cost to repair. If it's less than say £1500 it's probably worth getting it repaired, if it's more than that you'll probably be best taking it to WBAC.0 -
Do a search for HEVRA garages in your local area. These will be qualified to give you a much better idea of cost than your local AA patrol, who is probably just guessing.

To be honest, it's worth investigating the fault.
Even mega mileage Prius make decent money
There are plenty of independent Toyota Hybrid specialist dotted around the country that could properly diagnose it for a small fee.
It might not even be the battery pack.
One common issue with these is a battery control system fault.
Water gets into the rear hatch and can effect the connectors inside the rear quarter panel.
The code is usually something like P3000
They might even be prepared to take it off your hands for a decent price if the repairs are expensive, as they would likely repair it themselves and suck up the labour costs for a decent sale price.

Maybe go and ask on the Prius forum https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/forum/52-prius-club/
They may be able to help diagnose, advise on how to sell or even a member may want to buy it.0 -
Why not get a WBAC quote without the fault code. Drive it to them and say the code just popped up and let them make a judgement call about the cost to repair (they probably have a database of fault codes vs amount to discount the car by). If it's too low, don't accept then look into a repair or Autotrader ad with fault declared.Signature on holiday for two weeks0

"EDIT - out of interest, does a Prius with a battery fault still work, albeit as simply a regular petrol car? " - it still drives, it just had this warning light, which the AA guy actually switched off - so if I was an unscrupulous type I could sell it as in good condition.1

That's what I was going to suggest and they might even buy it off you. How big is the battery: those have a value for domestic re-use as well. But in your unfortunate circumstances, sorry, I'd go for the least hassle option.

I've tried advertising at work, and spreading the word among friends and family, but no one interested. It is low mileage and in good condition, apart from a worrying error code about the hybrid battery - which the AA guy said would likely by £1500->£2000 to fix.
Is webuyanycar.com the only option? I got a quote for £3500, but there was no option to state that it had this error code. I tried the quote for non-runner and it was £715.I’m curious…..what happened to this car ? Successful sale ?0
