TLTR:- using an alternate address will they trace my defendant?

(I'm unsure what category to put this under)

Hi! I need some advice if possible and I'll try to make it as short as possible. My ex owes me a large sum of money, therefore I have taken out a money claims on him to go to court. He has 5 days left to reply. I sent the letter to his mums address as its the only address I know he is linked to (he now lives with his current partner, before lived with his wife, then before lived with his mum), he's told me since he's moved to two other locations since he owed me the money and he has told me he gets post delivered to his mum still and I know he has/will receive the letter either way as I sent a letter out of respect to his mum just to say that i am not getting her involved in the matter, but due to him telling me he has moved on multiple occasions he would be classed as no fixed abode, so therefore I have had to use her address but if she does have any questions then she is welcome to ring me if she is offended or wishes for me to explain this. I did ask CAB if I could use her address and they did say yes.

But my question is, if he doesn't respond or I do win the case and he doesn't turn up to court, how do I get my money if he isn't based in that address? Will I lose either way? Will they be able to trace him? Have I wasted my money?

I know I was stupid for lending him the money and I've had my lectures already 🙈
