Hotel Chocolat Double Payment

Hi
I have an issue that seems surprisingly awkward to resolve. For reference my bank in this case in Monzo.
I bought a gift in Hotel Chocolat in store contactless, the charge showed as a different branch to the one I used but I see that occasionally.
Five days later a second charge for the same amount was taken, this time showing as the branch where I had made the first purchase. This meant I had paid twice. As the second charge was made on a day I was at home with my card I challenged it on my banking app, Monzo reversed the second transaction and replaced my card in case it was fraud.
Then a week after that Hotel Chocolat credited my account with the same amount.
So now I two credits which means I haven't paid for the gift I bought.
So:
How have Hotel Chocolat made two transactions, have they kept my card details? If it was a fraudulent transaction by a third party how did they know to credit me?
As I haven't paid for my goods, have I committed some form of fraud, how do I fix this and did I do anything wrong?

You haven't committed any fraud, don't worry. Contact the retailer and let them know what's happened. They may ask to re-charge you or they may simply thank you for your honesty and let it go.
I don't know precisely what's happened, but it sounds like some sort of glitch that was later corrected, and your Monzo challenge "overtook" the retailer's own correction,2 -

I think that this is an excellent answer.

Or contact Monzo & advise them.
If they do a fraud chargeback, they could end up redebiting anyway.Life in the slow lane0
