New SIM can't read SMS messages SOLVED

I suspect the contacts were never actually on the SIM.When you first put a SIM in then Samsung Phones of that era will offer to copy the contacts to the phone. They do this because SIMs were only ever capable of storing a small number of contacts with a short name and number. You can copy the contacts and some messages to the SIM but you’ll lose some of the information as phones obviously have much more information for each contact. It’s possible the OP thought the messages and contacts were on their SIM so they wanted to backup them up to the memory card and then when they had the new SIM copy them to the new SIM.This is likely to go wrong and you’d certainly lose most messages.I suspect someone tech savvy could sort this in a few minutes. i.e go into settings and set the time to sync to the network, copy the contacts to the phone and log the phone into Google so they never need to do this again.1

O2 told me how to copy the contacts from the old sim to the SD card then to the new SIM, which I did, and it worked. But for some reason it stopped working after two days, because I suspect they cancelled the WRONG SIM card!
So while I was on the call again, they fixed it, but they said they hadn't. But they must have, as it didn;t work at the beginning of the call, but worked by the end. Not the first time a company has fixed something that was their fault that they refused to admit!
Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?1 -

Not clear why you would need to back up your contacts and messages if you are simply replacing one SIM with another (although having backups, preferably automatic, is good). It's also unusual to need to set the date/time on a mobile phone, they normally set automatically as soon as a date connection is established.
You mentioned you have a second phone. What is it? Could you try your new SIM in the second phone to see if the problems still occur.
The J3 only has 8 or 16GB of storage, any chance you might have no available space?1 -
