Environvent fans

Would you say that an "Environvent silent" fan is a heat recovery type? Or is it a normal /cheap and nasty fan?
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Which specific model? I think they are just extractor fans though so no heat recovery0

I went to look at their site but as soon as I saw "book a free survey", I got out of there sharpish.Signature on holiday for two weeks0

I thought Envirovent produced PIV ( positive input ventilation ) fans ??
So not extractor fans at all.
The exact opposite in fact.

Environment do a bewildering large range of ventilation products.

Probably ranging from cheap and cheerful extract fans to top of the range whole house heat recovery or positive input ventilation systems.
I have one of their Silent 100 extractor fans in my ensuite. Very quiet while still extracting the steam from a shower pretty well.

The silent range is just a standard extract fan. Reasonable unit (I actually installed one in our downstairs WC myself), effective at removing steam and reasonably quiet.MouldyOldDough said:Would you say that an "Environvent silent" fan is a heat recovery type? But definitely not a heat recovery type. Envirovent only do one decentralised MVHR unit (ie just for one room, rather than the whole house) - the heatSava https://www.envirovent.com/products/heat-recovery-ventilation-mvhr/heatsava/

So how does the fan actually work?
Does it suck cold air in or blow warm air out?

The Silent extract fan range blows warm moist air outside. There has to be replacement air for the air discharged, so this will come into the room via open internal doors from other rooms, through window trickle vents (if open), through small gaps around skirting boards, window frames, recessed downlights etc.MouldyOldDough said:So how does the fan actually work?

Inevitably the warm moist air being discharged outside will be replaced by cold dry air coming into the house somewhere, just depends on the easiest path available for the air.
The heatSava unit works by blowing warm moist air outside for a few minutes, with most of the heat being collected within the unit. The fan then reverses direction and blows cold dry air back into the room for a few minutes, with the collected heat then used to warm this air. And then back to extraction mode0 -
I have four of the Environvent silent fans, all mine do is extract steam though as far as I know. They are pretty silent but in the bathrooms they do drip condensation which is annoying. I'm not sure if that's the fan's fault or the installation.

Are they ducted vertically up through a cold loft above? Should be fitted with a condensate drain if they are, any fan would have the same issue with that install.Postik said:I have four of the Environvent silent fans, all mine do is extract steam though as far as I know.
