TELLIT01 said:I find the pre-existing conditions of a close family member exclusion bizarre. Although the OP in this instance is aware of the parent's medical history, not everybody will be. Many people either don't want to worry other family members or simply don't want to discuss their medical situation. How is anybody going to declare medical conditions they are unaware of ?0

Moral hazard - it would cost insurers more and therefore raise premiums for everyone. If it wasn't excluded, then knowing a relative was ill someone could happily take a chance to book travel knowing insurance would pick up the bill if needed. How is the insurance company going to prove you did know about the illness?
Premiums would further have to rise because the risk being covered, i.e. relatives' pre-existing conditions, has widened.
When people tend to only look for lowest prices, including it will likely make the provider uncompetitive.0 -
Hi Just an update RC were really unhelpful and unsympathetic, they said I had until September to change it (even though he wasn’t dying then) and wouldn’t speak any further about it. I gave the insurance a call and was really surprised at how sympathetic and kind they were! Was not expecting it they spoke to softly and told me I’d need a letter/drs note of the day we found out he was dying and written confirmation of all other booking, but as it so happens he passed away this week and the funeral can’t go ahead for nearly three weeks and MIL is forcing us to go so we don’t loose the money.2

You might care to post the name of the insurance company: sometimes it is good to hear who gives good service when it matters.2
