Merlin Passes Worth It?

Hi,

I am considering buying gold Merlin passes for the first time for me, my wife and our two kids.

I am aware of Merlin ticket holders  needing to prebook atttactions via a Merlin Website.

I have costed it all up and comfortable the gold passes wouod lead to breaking even or being better offer, depending how often I visited attractions.

Looking for views/feedback on if they are worth it from people who either currently hold Merlin passes or had them within last few years.

Thanks

  • I don’t have Merlin passes now as the children are grown up but we had for a number of years and they were fantastic value for us.
I would always pre book anywhere I go to avoid disappointment so can’t see that being a concern.

I think one year I got discount through a cashback site or Black Friday deals so that reduced the overall cost.

As you say as long as you go a couple of times in the year they are worth it and not sure now but you used to get discount on food etc at the venues with the pass.

So worth it! We bought gold passes for us and our two teenagers and used them so much over just half terms and the summer, we saved a huge amount and even on ‘skint’ months could have amazing days out taking packed lunches :)
using them in London alone is brilliant as most are right next to each other so could fit 4 attractions in in one day visit!
The only advice I’d give is make sure you book in as much advance as you can, especially for the London attractions, as although you can just book on the day for many, some do book up in advance!
advantage with the gold passes too is the free parking and not too many days blacked out.
Best win; South Africa World Cup package.
2023: ~ June ~ -£150 Reptile store spends -£200 Naturalizer shoes spends -Kiss Radio win (Ooni, bbq, Sonos speaker, Fujifilm instax camera) ~ July~ -Children’s books -Paintbrushes -Tin of paint. ~September -5* hotel stay -£500 wallpaper spends -£60 hair care set
  • It’s worth it if you plan to visit the attractions frequently and on different dates. The only downside is that you have to pre-book your tickets online and there are some blackout dates in August and other peak times. But overall, I think it’s a great way to enjoy some fun days out with your family and save some money.
  • As others are saying, definitely worth it if you plan to go to their attractions over multiple times.
We have them and they have some great days out for all ages!

I'd say worth it for a year but i wouldn't then renew as I got tired of being a theme parks/queuing although that's with younger kids so less exciting rides.

The range for a day trip to london, Alton Towers, legoland, sealife and warwick castle meant we broke even pretty easily though. I think we did AT and legoland within 5 days and I found that more annoying with the queues so space them out and see if you can do school days (e.g. inset days) if you can.
