Proofing savings for UC

I have to go the job centre and prove what money I have had in all my accounts since the 7th November. I online bank with chase and nationwide. Will showing what is in my account on a screen on an app be enough or will they expect paper statements. Bank statement are not available until the 2nd Dec for chase. And the app will only show my activities not the totals in account each day. What will the job centre want to see as evidence.

You will need a printed statements that shows the total amount in your accounts.
  • I need to declare my monies by the 8th December, and my statement are not available until 2nd of the month so I'll have to rearrange my appointment then. Thanks for clearing it up. I sent a message in my journal 4 days ago asking same question but they haven't got back to me

I guess if they do need paper statements, you'll have to give them the October statement for the total on the 31st, then the screen (screenshots?  If you're able to print them) showing all the transactions since then.  I don't know if you could just give those in and leave the hard work of adding and subtracting all the transactions to them (gotta be honest, I'd be tempted to since they're the ones asking for the details, but I don't know if that would be wise or if you should do a running total at the side yourself).
  • My chase bank statement is available after the 2nd of each month. So I've sent a journal message asking to rearrange the appointment after that but before the 8th. Nationwide is easier as it shows activities and total on the screen. But chase just shows activities. Like you said they would have to work it out from all the activities.
  • All the banks I use allow you to select a to and from date and can save to pdf (I know Nationwide do), so if you got a printer you can do it that way.

To be honest I'm surprised you can't generate a statement across any selected time period and at least put it into a pdf format (sometimes these banks enable a print option where you can instead save as a pdf file) which could then be printed if necessary...... and which would show transactions and balances. Unfortunately I have account with neither so cannot advise directly - sometimes apps have less features than 'online' log in to account.

Otherwise screenshotting might be an option.. or even can you request a paper copy of statements?

If you get statement into electronic format I'd be inclined to save the files on your phone and possibly email them to yourself so you can transfer them to whomever you meet.... or otherwise ask Universal Credit (if relevant) for an upload document option.

Failing all that yeah stall appointment and wait until monthly statements produced and perhaps get such printed but in this day and age that shouldn't be necessary.

It depends on why they are asking.
I had a UC compliance check recently and while it was all done electronically and by phone, they wanted official statements showing name & adddess plus opening and closing balance.
I was not allowed to do a pdf made up of transactions over the dates they wanted (four months).
It had to be issued statements.
  • Just a suggestion, if you take your bank statements upto the end of October, could you get a mini statement from the ATM. That would cover you for the last few weeks and also cover your current balance.
  • I don't have bank cards for my savings accounts as they are online with chase. So it's not possible to get a mini statement at atm for them. I've asked for the appointment to be rescheduled for after the 3rd of the month. Hopefully they will do that for me
