I think Mable may just be telling it as it is - not being spiteful.

Its Barclaycards thought processes you should be concerned with not mine. I have not the power to grant credit to you but they have.

With debts of over £18,000 you are a very likely candidate.

I don't think this is spiteful, I think MABLE is just being honest. With a debt of £18K, you are seen as a high risk customer. The banks are currently trying to minimise their losses, and hence are cutting back on lending to high risk customers.
    Gone ... or have I?

With respect I suggest you find another seat as you are not seeing the full picture.

Must be a real Credit Crunch if somebody can go from acceptance to rejection in the space of a week! Banks logic on setting/ reviewing limits is pretty bizarre, but I am pretty sure they cannot lower the limit to below the balance... Well maybe by a few pounds, but they do refund the charges and request that you keep your balance below the unknown and random new limit!
OP, best advice I can give is to apply for an alternative card as that may indicate if there is a problem. If so, get a copy of your credit file, if not, it's Barclaycards loss.

Says the woman who not so long ago implied (more than once) that another member she knew nothing about had lied to obtain credit. :rotfl:

It's not Barclaycard who are making unnecessary remarks about his debt though, is it dear?

You are thoroughly unpleasent , scaremongering , with no more information given than a curt , spitefull one-liner , and from looking through your other posts it seems you cant help yourself

Explain your `likely candidate` remark , in depth and to the best of your knowledge

If you cant , its best when giving financial advice or opinion , that you know what you are talking about

    Merry christmas....
  • Well what can I say! I read Mables comment last night and was going to reply, but then remembered how I've misread so many e-mails in the past and misjudged what the OP is trying to say. Thats the problem with Forums\E-mail etc its so difficult to work out what people mean sometimes.

So Maple, thanks for your reply - I'm working hard on getting my level of debt down and now I know that Barclays can review my situation and close my account, it answers my question (and makes me worried!). I guess theres always different ways of saying what you mean.

One thing I would say is surely it depends not only on the level of Debt, but other factors (how much you earn, whether you pay your bills ontime, investments, equity etc) when the lender decides youre risk level? Somntimes things aren't as straight forward as they may seem.

DGJsaver\Relay\Dylanwing - hey, thanks for sticking up for me and for the suggestions. I did at one point think Maples commend may have been a bit harsh, but it all depends on how you read it.

I'm just going to play things by ear at the moment, lets see what happes over the next few months. My cash flow forecast says I'll have everything paid off apart from the Barclaycard and my Egg Loan by June and I've made good progress so far so fingers crossed!

Hopefully Barclaycard wont just decide to dump me....
