My daughter believes her phone has been hacked and she can now not get into various apps including Netflix. What should she do? Please spell out any advice in words of one syllable as neither she nor I are very technical. Thanks a lot.

What do you mean by can't get into apps? What does it do?
Nuclear option is to just factory reset it https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT2012742 -
Not sure exactly what happens but like the link you've posted thank you. Only question is would you want to backup the phone if its been hacked? Wouldn't it mean you will then restore an infected phone?

It is pretty rare for a normal iPhone to get a virus. By that I mean one that hasn't been jailbroken, but I doubt that's been done judging by your OP saying you had limited tech skills.
You could try deleting and reinstalling one of the apps, Netflix for example, to see if it solves the problem. There have been times my iPhone won't load an app and deleting and reinstalling solves the problem. Last time was a couple of months ago when the ITVX app didn't work.3 -
It's extremely unlikely that an iPhone has been hacked . For more likely that your daughter has poor digital hygiene and someone known to her has a password.4

It could be the fact that the phone is “old” and some apps stop working. You could tell us what version of iOS it is on and which phone it is? I don’t use iPhones but I have experience of iPads, also is the phone up to date ditto the apps.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . What model of iPhone is it?Is the operating system software up to date? (Go to Settings, General then Software Update)Are all the apps up to date?Try shutting down the iPhone and restarting (you will be surprised how many problems this fixes)Try uninstalling and reinstalling the affected apps3

what makes her think this ? Hacking is exceptionally rare - mostly its passwords that have been compromised in one way or another.
It may be better for you daughter to post here so that she can directly answer and questions.
Already some great advice - but it might be handy to know EXACTLY what does and doesnt work
For example - Netflix might not work on her phone, but has she tried to log on via another device ?
