Hi all. I can't find the answer on the Gov website. I am self employed. I sell handmade items online so I am classed as a sole trader. I sell on Etsy, Ebay and on my own website and I have to pay selling fees, buy materials and postage. My question is....I earn just over the amount of £8668 a year so just over the threshold but this is takings and not profit. Can I still apply? I don't actually take home £8668 because of my expences so when it says on the application do you earn over £166.22 a week do I say yes? My intake on my online stores is just over this threshold but the actual money i transfer to my bank is not. thanks.

As you are self employed your 'income'  is your profit after expenses , not your turnover, which is your total income before epenses.

    As sheramber says.

However, it is worth being aware of the "start-up period" rule, which provides for an exception to the minimum income requirement for 12 months if you make a declaration of eligibility during the period of 12 months from when you started your self-employment.

Does that apply to tax free childcare, which is what thenOP is enquiring about?

Is it? The title of the thread specifically mentions "30 hours free childcare" not tax free childcare.

Start-up period anyway applies to both tax-free childcare and 30-hours childcare.
