Chaps payment from Nationwide

We have a Nationwide FlexAccount and want to use the money in this account to pay off our NatWest mortgage when our fixed rate comes to an end. We went into Nationwide to check what we would need to make the payment and they said you can’t make a chaps payment from a building society to pay off a mortgage. This sounds like it cannot be true. Can anybody confirm whether this is actually a thing? Thanks

CHAPS stands for Clearing House Automated Payment System.
Nationwide use HSBC as their intermediary clearing bank. They don't provide the service themselves.0 -
Very similar scenario we're in. Sounds like the branch staff might need a little re-training. Online or in branch CHAPS is available.

I've made online CHAPS payments from Nationwide before, so definitely possible.1

yes Chaps is available - inbound and outbound0

A matter of terminology - perhaps try asking the question differently.

You can do Faster Payments (if the total value is under 100k), CHAPS or even a counter cheque.
Only the CHAPS isn't free of charge
