Burner Current Account Switch - Newbie!

Hi all,
Forgive me, I've never done this before and don't want to mess up!
I am perfectly happy with my Halifax current account; I want to keep this main account running as it is.
I am looking to open the Nationwide Flex account as a 'burner' account (hang head in shame - purely for the cashback as I live on my state pension) but as a newbie I am confused with conflicting advice.
1) During the application when I say 'NO' to closing my Halifax account, will my working current account really stay open? (can't afford the fracas if it closes!!!)
2) If I set up a couple of charity debit debits (happy for these to continue) in the next few days on my Halifax account will these be acceptable to transfer across?
Thank you for any advice, so grateful x
PS. Looking at the Nationwide as no minimum monthly pay in - I already have to juggle my pension to fit the Halifax criteria, so need it simple

To me a burner account is disposable. If you don't want to get rid of your current Halifax account, don't include it in any account opening procedure. You could set up another Halfix account and use that as your burner account to open a Nationwide account using CASS.If you really want to setup a Nationwide account as a burner account, don't choose anything that suggests a current account switch, but open the account as a new account.1

As I said I'm new to all this but if I can get the cashback by setting up a new account - wonderful!
Thank you, Twitty

I would leave the Halifax account as it is, don't confuse the issue
Set up a burner account with, Starling, Metro or Monzo, in fact set up all 3
Choose one to switch once you have the debit cards and if required direct debits
There are a lot of posters on here with switching problems, I have switch more than 10 and not had a single problem,
It is essential to read and understand the terms and conditions of the bank you are going to switch into. Follow these to the letter and it will be plain sailing
Good luck1 -
I found it very easy to open a second Halifax account and then once the debit card arrived I switched it to TSB. You have to close the account as part of the switch.Debt Free: 01/01/2020

I have just opened a second Halifax current account. Will set up the required two direct debits then switch this account to Nationwide, closing this new Halifax account in the process.
Blimey, I know its not working at the coal face but its a minefield for the uninitiated! So thank you all for your advice, Twitty x0 -
Just get a hot cup of tea and read throught the Nationwide thread somewhere on this page. You will be an expert by the end of it!1

If you switch an account the existing account is automatically closed.
You can easily open a new account with Halifax however you will need to wait for the debit card as you (usually) need to put the number on the CASS switch form.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
