Really, some idiotic banks need to sort themselves out on this stuff. When there's a govt approved and controlled website for verification of documentation, why the flipping hell are they still asking customers for 'solicitor certified' physical copies in the year 2024!
What system is there that is streamlined electronically and doesn't require individual user registrations?
For example, HBOS group used that "Use a lasting power of attorney" website I listed above via a code I give them as Attorney, then they setup extra logins quickly afterwards – super slick, and relatively easy. Hence why the above website exists in the first place for this procedure.

'Use a lasting power of attorney' website, states:
If you’re an attorney or the donor on a lasting power of attorney (LPA), you can use this service to:

    • allow people or organisations to view a summary of an LPA
    • keep track of which people or organisations have been given access to an LPA
    • view an LPA summary
    • see how people named on the LPA are using the service
    • ask for an activation key if you have not been given one
    • replace your activation key if yours is lost or expired
So yes, other banks do this stuff right.

All of this is an utterly time consuming needless headaches and cost, all because they're too lazy to fix their damn in-house procedures to newer approved digital standards – expecting customers to remain having to jump through needless hoops, instead. 🙄
At a guess because the have assessed that, based on the number of LPAs they deal with, the cost of updating their system is more than the savings made by going digital

So, not integrated and quite a manual process and comes with business risks.     Not the sort of thing that many will be willing to do.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

No, nothing like that at all. As expected they took basic verification info from me, but things were done extremely efficiently and quickly, compared to the joke that is Cynergy Bank. You miss the larger point being made: they used the official govt website to verify the LPA, which exists for this purpose, and not their own backwards manual and costly 'solicitor certified' procedures which wastes their own customer's time, and are needless in late 2023 when a said website exists for this very purpose. No excuses should be made here IMO, as they're creating costs for both themselves and their customers.

We’ve just been granted PoA for my mother and I tried yesterday to add my name to her NW account. Before the actual paperwork came through I thought we’d have to send copies to the relevant parties so needless to say I was pleased to see it could be done on-line by simply sending the bank a confirmation code. But no, it’s not proved as simple as expected as I don’t possess a laptop or computer, just an iPad, and I cannot download their application form. Seems my only option now is to find family or friend with a suitable device, go to an internet cafe or similar, or visit the bank some 30 miles away. Hoping mum doesn’t have to tag along as she’s in a nursing home, and immobile.
Why are things so 🤬 difficult

Many will advise the same thing here... buy an affordable PC/Mac (even a used one) if you can afford one, for the long-term benefits of all your paperwork. While iPads/mobiles are great for many things, they're well-known as often having technical issues/restrictions for doing paperwork-type things.

While some people love these devices for everything, and have no issues doing harder stuff on them, I'd suggest the majority will find them much more fiddly to do work, compared to even the most basic of desktop/laptop.

I've a recent iPad Pro and iPhone and am highly tech literate, but doing paperwork on them is not something I find a good experience, so avoid it for such stuff over my laptop.
