Worcester boiler help!

Hi I have a relatively new Worcester 2000 combi. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to power up when I tried to manually turn the heating on via the control panel. The wall mounted sensor lights are both flashing (red and green). Pressing both reset buttons for 5 secs doesn't do anything. Can't see any error codes if they were supposed to come up? Worcester helpline is closed. Any help please?

  • Boiler temp was set to 53 something, turning hot water tap does work - get hot water, temp on boiler panel increases accordingly, but both lights continue to flash.
  • Boiler pressure remains at around 1. Flame comes on the digital control panel thermostat thing, but no firing up when trying the heating again

In your boiler manual there is a list of basic checks you can go through.

What I would check is if timer is set on or in a on period and if thermostat is set too low.
It does say pressure should be between 1 and 1.5 when cold but as you are getting hot water may not be the issue.

Post a picture of the wall mounted thermostat and one of the display on the boiler
  • The 'wall mounted sensor lights'? I presume this is the wireless receiver for your room stat? In which case, there's your problem, almost certainly.
Make and model of your room stat, please.
Is the stat unit battery-powered? If so, that's your first check!
  • Hi yes that sensor thing it's esi esrtp4rf+.

The issue did resolve albeit slowly and now has returned. (Except those sensor lights aren't blinking now)

So turning the thermostat to manual and increasing temperature so that the boiler kicks in and radiators turn on, doesn't seem to work. The boiler makes a whirring noise, but doesn't power up. The sensor has the m/a light on, the green manual light remains off. The temperature on the boiler creeps up with the radiator picture flashing and flame on, but doesn't bring the radiators on.

Edit - just checked and radiators are beginning to warm now. I can't for the life of me remember if this is the normal noise it's making, I don't think it is. And is the green manual light meant to be on?

  • Not sure if this helps, but when I manually turn in our Worcester Bosch it makes a slight whirr noise but then does nothing until (I believe) it receives data from both thermostat sensors. This can be quick or a few minutes. So it seems like nothing is happening but then after a while it kicks in.

But maybe that's just my model

On the 4rf+ unit slide the control to Auto position.
On the screen, bottom right will be the set temperature and top left of screen will be the temperature of the room as unit senses it.
If the set temprature is below what reads on top left of screen, boiler will not come on, if so press + button till set temperature is above reading on top left of screen. This should lead to wall unit near boiler M/A button lighting up (red) to indicate boiler has started heating.

On the lid of 4rf+ is a QR code that will lead you to manual or video on how to operate controls.
  • Try what Eldi says, and take into account any 'delay' for things to get going.  The initial whirrrr could be just the pump getting going in anticipation of the boiler being fired, and the pump will also likely keep going after the boiler has been told to go 'off'. Read the instructions fully.
Still not working, then come back.
