Lots of small files transfer slower than a large file.  If you have a mixture of large and small files you will see the transfer speed vary as it goes from many small files to a big file and back.
I can get 300MB/s transferring large (10GB+) files from my NVME drive to a USB3 SSD (which is probably as fast as the SSD can write), but it can go right down to single digits when there are couple of thousand jpeg pictures to transfer.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

  • Reset your WiFi, switch off and if you have a test socket try using it for 48hrs speeds can increase because your exchange will see it's being tested also check what else is using WiFi smart boxes bulbs security cameras the list is endless nowadays. And test all cables just incase one is under performing.

OP is asking about a USB stick connected locally into his device, not network performance.

  • If the network isn't running properly the upload download any load will not run right. When I used to upload, a cable that was faulty changed the time substantially. Switching it out cut the time by hours.
  • Another thing is your drivers you can uninstall and reinstall the device and security real-time protection can stall it to so check that in settings. Good luck 🤞

It's nothing to do with network connectivity
    It's the USB port
