A "quick" call to HMRC? Does that include the 3 days wait for them to answerOzzig said:I can confirm, a quick call and they post you a letter with all the interest declared to them, including the bank name, sort code, and last 4 digits of the account number.

To be fair if you have only one or two accounts you should be able to add it up but if you have say 60 are so with statements coming in over a long period and others that Don,t actually send paper statements it's not quite so easyborn_again said:To be fair, you should know how much interest you have earned over the last year & be able to work it out. Remember banks have to report this to HMRC.
You can also ask you bank's for a annual statement of interest.0 -
I do keep my own records but that doesn’t mean I trust what HMRC say!Hoenir said:

That’s the reason for wanting to check & confirm.0 -
Mine didn't match, hence one of the reasons I wanted them to confirm what they'd been informed of, it included an account closed at not long after the tax period started with 2p of interest and an NS&I bond (paid at maturity etc, etc !!) listing 10p of interest.grahamgoo said:I got a message through the other day and the total doesn’t match my records. I do have 8 or 9 accounts but I cannot get any combination to add up to the total they have given me, and I have tried to be meticulous in my record keeping.0
