  • Can anyone tell me. What are those 'still wrapped' things high on the lamp posts as you go to Ards Centre from Dundonald direction?

They are cameras that calculate your average speed over a set distance. They are called "SPECS" I believe.

  • Anyone know if there's one on the A5 between Omagh and Ballygawley on the dual carrigeway stretch? Was driving there last week and using the overtaking lane (probably at about 70mph:o to get past a couple of slow movers before the end of the overtaking lane) and noticed the boy racer who had been sitting tight behind me had slowed waaay down. Then I think there may have been a flash, tho hard to tell cos it could have been headlights reflected. Anyone know anything? Also how long does it take to hear about it?
  • I have it in my head that those responsible have three weeks from the date of the offence to inform you in writing that an offence has been commited.
You can make an appointment to view the bunny in the headlights photograph if you are contacted.
Automatic 3 points and i think the fine is £60:rolleyes:
  • IIRC it's 14 days to issue the nip/fpn, longer if it's a company car/hire car which takes longer to identify the culprit.

Don't think there are any static cameras there, just the mobile ones which would not flash.

My wife was out last night at about 9.30 on a road with no speed cameras when she noticed two flashes behind her. She was doing about 35-40 in a 30 zone. We are therefore wondering if she has been snapped by a mobile camera. If mobile cameras don't flash then it must have been something else? Also is it a bit odd to put a mobile camera out at night - surely they are more appropriate to use during the day when there are more cars and pedestrians about?

I've seen them on the M2 at night a lot - police out with the cameras - probably for the reason you say - people assume they on't be about, so they catch more people
  • cameras mainly seemed to be turned on at quiet periods-sundays or the early hours of the morning. My partner's sat nav doesn't recognise them during the day and always picks the same ones up at night time.

Suppose they don't want to incurr costs when they won't actually recoup anything in fines!!!
