You will have to use a guide book: these choices are subjective.

For example, El Prado has a fantastic collection of certain types of art, but if that is not to your taste then you wouldn't enjoy it.

While I agree with @Voyager2002 about the Prado it is so vast that you'd need to select carefully what you want to see in the time available.Personally for such a short visit I'd suggest the Reina Sofia museum in order to see what may be Picasso's and Spain's greatest work of art.
Or if art's not your thing maybe a tour of the Bernabeu stadium.

I lived in Madrid for a year in 2002/3 and recently returned to the city for the first time since then.

This YouTube channel has some excellent Madrid tips in its videos:

For a MoneySaving travel tip, look out for the two electric bus routes (001 and 002) which are free.

The grand old post office building - now Madrid's City Hall and the CentroCentro arts complex - is open till 8pm Sundays (closed Mondays) - https://www.centrocentro.org/en - we went to the viewing gallery which is cheap but not earth-shattering in terms of views.  There are also various free exhibitions.
