Royal Mail .... sigh!

Options
I'm sure my area isn't alone in not having post delivered for days on end.  We've been told that RM have issued the instruction that all posties concentrate on parcels as RM make more money from that and to ignore the day to day post stacking up.  I know several people who have missed deadlines / appointments because time sensitive letters are in a big heap somewhere and not being delivered.  Why are they not challenged on this appalling service?  Day to day post is also paid for and it's a service which is not good enough on any level.  As always, the staff doing the job and the customers paying are the ones who suffer.

They was recently fined £5.6 million for not meeting their targets on 1st and 2nd class set by Ofcom, I'm not sure if that includes the downstream access stuff (such as letters from your bank, etc).

Our local office is short staffed, 2 people were trained on our round, both quit very quickly. I know Royal Mail are upping the work load but I would imagine the pressure on self employed couriers for some of the other courier companies is a much more demanding job.

If the other couriers were also regulated I think the race to the bottom would ease but I can't see Royal Mail can offer the high levels of service they once did as well as effectively compete for business against the others in the market who have no obligation to provide a set level of service.

I think its a shame as Royal Mail have always done a great job in the past.
