Credit card upgrade to rewards card

  • As you're already with Halifax you may want to look at their cashback credit card?

It's 0.25% cashback when you spend up to £4k
    After £4k it's 0.50% cashback

On top of that they have their 'Cashback Extras' where you get offers for extra cashback on things like shopping, train tickets, etc.

Thanks for the help guys it’s certainly a bit of a mind field. A couple of other questions,

Im due to start my remortgage process in January should I wait until after I’ve remortgage to start applying for a new card?

Also does anyone know how the Barclaycard rewards card compare to the Barclays travel wallet in terms of fees for using abroad and exchange rate?

    Thanks

The cash back/reward cards all depend on your circumstances and spending. There’s not a huge amount to be gained from them, but it can be worthwhile.

For me any card that collects Avios to covert to Nectar or the Nectar Amex are great value if you also shop at Sainsbury’s or eBay.

The Nectar app always gives out bonus points (in my opinion much better than Clubcard) to maximise this too.

That in mind Amex is much much more widely excepted now but there’s still some places that won’t take it, and I’ve had a few usual haunts stop taking it recently which is a shame as they are places that are high transactions too.

You can get more information about reward cards on the site Headforpoints (HfP)
This is in both the articles and the forums.
I have been reminded by a forum post on HfP, that if you lose an Amex card, a replacement card will be sent to you at your location. I don’t know of another card that has that feature.
i don’t know if this applies to all Amex cards or just some. Nor do I know the timescale for the replacement.
Also with wallets on phones this may not be necessary, but sometimes you just need the physical card.
