Pigs-in-blankets milkshake, Christmas-pudding crisps and cheesy mince pies... last year we collated the weirdest of Christmas flavours. Can we top it this year?

Iceland has several festive flavour crisps from Scottish brand Mackies, including pigs in blankets and Boxing Day curry.
  • I've seen the Christmas pudding flavoured crisps from the well known branded company beginning with"W".
What shocked me was how quick they were to sell out full stand of them on a Saturday a week or so ago and 3 days later there was none left.

Saw a report of Christmas Tree flavoured crisps. Made me wonder who has eaten a Christmas tree to know what it tastes like.

Maybe I'm just strange, but... surely everyone has tried a pine needle at some point?  Lots of chefs use them to smoke meat at this time of year.

I'm a staunch vegetarian and I can hand on heart say that pine needles have never been on my radar as a foodstuff. Anything pine has been restricted to use in my kitchen and bathrooms as a cleaning product.

Maybe I should try the crisps to establish what the fuss is about?

I've seen a few foraging videos over last couple of years where people use pine needles in hot water for flavour.
Can't say I've tried it tho, although it's apparently good for you.

re the pine…if you’ve ever drunk retsina (Greek wine) you’ve tasted pine!

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Can't say I've tried it being more of a fan of Italian than Greek holidays, but I would imagine its not too far off grappa (which consists of the odds and sods of everything herbal distilled into something quite concentrated). I can't even remember how that tasted, but I sure can remember the hangover!

ASDA are doing sage, onion and cranberry bread at the mo. It tastes as strange as it sounds & as far as I'm concerned it's a good lesson to maintain traditional boundaries between savoury & sweet!
