So we've been with Shell Energy for several years and always had the WHD automatically added to our account.
Last year, for whatever reason, we missed out, so this year I found an eligibility website, ran through it with our details, found we were eligible and it generated a code.
Yesterday I rang the WHD team and quoted the code. The lady said the £150 would be applied to our Shell account anytime between now and the end of March. Nothing else to do and all is good.
Today I see Shell will be transfering business to Octopus soon, so my questions are:
1) Will the WHD transfer over too? I know some energy suppliers don't do WHD, but am unsure of Octopus.
2) If we were able to find a referrer for Octopus, to take advantage of the £50 referral that's currently on offer, would that affect this WHD application that's just been made?

Just trying to maximise discounts/freebies if possible.

If it hasn't arrived before the transfer to Octopus then once the transfer is complete contact Octopus would be my advice they have good customer service.

    The referral won't affect WHD

Last year the WHD qualification criteria changed significantly - for the old core group 2 as well as the benefits element the property had to be judged as having a high energy cost. This is based on property age, type and size.

This year, they relaxed the high energy cost formula, so more qualified for the payment.

It's possible you didn't qualify last year, but did this year.

Thanks, it's nice to know they have good customer services.
I've done a quote with Octopus and the numbers are pretty much the same as we pay already, so will be signing up today (via referral from friend).

Thanks too. Last year we were judged to be in a warm enough home, even though we live in a 'non-standard home', otherwise known as prefab concrete.
It would be nice to know how many people actually received the WHD last year compared to other years as I think a huge amount lost out.
Maybe a Freedom of Information request beckons....
