Advice needed on used Audi purchase

Hi,
I have had my Audi A3 for 15 months and purchased from an Audi dealer.
the car is a 21 plate and had 20200 miles on the clock.
Since I have had the Audi I have driven it 5k miles.
it had a service in April and advised them that the MMI dashboard kept rebooting while driving it and also random warning messages appear. Also I had noted some grinding noise on the brakes.
After the service they said everything was fine and only thing they advise is the brake fluid being changed and I would need to rebook it in for the dashboard issue.
After numerous times of calling and emailing the car is back with the dealer for the dashboard issue and grinding noise.
they have just called to say I have -

excessive corrosion on the front disks
I have a wheel locking nut missing (I have never had the tyres changed)
I need the brake fluid changed (I thought this was due every two years but I have only had the car for a year)
The dashboard reboot is because I need my sat nav updating (it has been rebooting since I have owned the car so unsure why that would not have been done when sold to me)

The want 1k for the work !!

My question is does this sound right when I have only done 5k on the car and only had it just over a year?

I wouldn’t let them do the work as I know they are super expensive but I feel they have given me a car which needed work on it prior to it being sold and wonder if I should push back on them to do the work without any expense to myself.

any advice would be great, thank you

15 months after purchase this is a bit late in the day - its not a new car, and if the brakes passed the MOT they were functionally correct.

The only part I would question is if the MMI has been rebooting since you got it then this should have been done before delivery to you (if the release was out before your purchase).

Although you’ve only had the car a year it’s possible the brake fluid needs doing as not all servicing includes brake fluid. Bought our car in May, it’s just three years old and the brake fluid needed changing last week.
As for the dashboard issues might they just down to a software issue, perhaps an update that needs running? Get yourself on to a specialist Audi (or A3) club forum site and ask for advice from fellow owners. Could save yourself some money

    It won’t have had an MOT yet - it’s a 21 plate

    15 months & 5K miles.

Brakes will make a grinding noise. Happens all the time & is caused by cars being stood & the disks start to rust on the surface. (mine do it overnight) drive & brake & it goes away.

Less a car is used the worse it is. Do they also make a clunking noise when you set off? If they do thats the pads sticking to the disks due to lack of use..

I can't comment on the dashboard MMI reboot.  It may be something that only an authorised service centre can do.

Grinding brakes is probably because the car has sat idle for some time.  It is not unusual for brakes to "grind" after just a holiday away with the car parked up, especially in damp weather.  The damp causes the brake dust to rust and the grinding is that dust wearing off.  Not possible to say on a forum whether that is excessive corrosion and requires new disks or whether the grinding will just fade with use.

The missing wheel nut is a bit of a "shrug" item - cheap to remedy, could have worked loose at any time.  Be grateful it has been found now and get a new nut so the wheel is properly secure rather than risk anything more serious  happening if the wheel is at risk of parting from the car.

Brake fluid - you say this needs changing every two years.  The car is a "21" plate, so registered in the middle part of 2021.  It is now 2023.  That's two years so time the brake fluid is changed.  You don't have to have this done by Audi.

How is the £1k broken down? Main dealer prices for the brakes will be expensive, the wheel nut is cheap and the sat nav updates should be done under warranty? You would get more specialist advice on the motoring forum.

Audi dealers will only update the MMI system if there is a reported issue and an update available. If the previous owner did not report it then they would not do an update, unlikely they would have seen it whilst they had it for sale so not surprised it wasn't done. There are ways you can do it yourself, but as it is under warranty it should be done for free as there is a known issue.
