Beware Carphone Warehouse and advertised deals

Completely rubbish experience with CPW after looking into the MSE advertised phone/sim deals :( Despite having a perfect credit score and being completely au fait with online ordering/inputting card details etc, got rejected because I'd failed their 'internal checks' and ended up with hard credit check on my credit report despite the decline :(((( Had to end up scrambling to cancel PAC code etc.

I think MSE should be careful when advertising deals with CWP as their customer support scores are so rubbish (see trustpilot) and their internal processes obviously dubious.Truspilot shows loads of people having issues with phones not being available and issues with their 'checks'.

In what way are they "Obviously" dubious?

You credit score means absolutely nothing, it's not even seen by lenders.  It sounds like there's something either with your credit history or else your income/debt ratio that means you don't meet their requirements.

Well yes, this is how credit checks work.  One hard search in isolation will have a negligible effect on any future applications.  If you have several hard searches in quick succession, then it can start to become an issue.

So why did you decide to apply to them if you were aware that they have lots of negative feedback?

I applied as it was a recommended deal by MSE, clearly I'll be more careful in future as MSE obvs don't check the state of customer service for the companies whose deals they're recommeding. My bad.

And thanks (wow are all forumites really so patronising), yes I know how credit checks work but CWP obviously have poor internal processes. Zero reason for me to fail their checks, can well afford it and no credit issues at all. Trustpilot shows loads of issues with their processing/order fulfilment etc.

I was not intending to be patronising, apologies if it came across as such.

Since you are not privvy to their internal credit scoring algorithms, you cannot possibly know that there is no reason to fail their checks.  Yes, you may have what you consider to be a good credit record, but each lender will have different criteria and different target customer bases.  You simply don't meet their target criteria, it's nothing personal.
