iPad browser

I have an IPad that I bought from my work when they were upgrading. It’s at least 6 years old, still has a good screen and a decent battery. I tend to only use it when travelling, to avoid carrying my laptop.  It’s stuck on iOS 12.5 It’s the only apple product I have, phones are always android and for work and home I use windows.

Recently I’m having trouble loading web pages. My webmail, trip advisor and numerous other pages aren’t working properly. I’ve looked at other browsers. Chrome needs iOS 15, Firefox needs iOS 14. I’ve downloaded opera, which I’ve never used before, and at first try it seems worse than Safari.

Any suggestions? Or do I just resign myself to the fact it is getting too old?

If the last version supported is iOS 12.5, then its probably an iPad Mini 2 (or 3), and these units are already ten years old, the Mini 2/3 was released back in 2013.  That's probably why work was upgrading, as the iPad 2 Mini was discontinued in 2017.

All you may be able to do is search the Apple Store and try various browsers, if none of them work you're out of luck fortunately.  Same situation as Windows XP, a now 22 year old operating system and the internet is pretty much inaccessible on it because there is no browser support.  Not unique to Apple, it happens to all internet capable hardware at some point.

Thanks - it definitely isn’t a mini, in fact I’ve just identified it as a first generation iPad Air. According to Wikipedia iOS 12.5.7 was the latest update for it, which ties in with where I am at.

It still surfs MSE and lets me download films to watch on the plane or train, but surfing is becoming a pain....

I think it's CPU isn't fast enough to load modern websites.  The built in mail app should be good enough for your email.

I have one of those, and I was going to give it to my 3 year old grandson. Maybe, I shouldn't?

    It's also IOS12.5.5.

I'll charge it up, and see what it's capable of.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Mine is charging up now, and it's downloaded Chrome. It says it's not the latest version of Chrome, but the latest version compatible with the OS.

On Safari, Tripadvisor doesn't load all the images correctly. However, it works perfectly on Chrome.

Can you check exactly which version of IOS you are running, and have another look in the app store?
