Retrofitting Surveys - Are they worth it?

Our local authority is offering £250 against the cost of a retrofit survey through and agency called Retrofit West https://www.retrofitwestadvice.co.uk/ . This would assess the energy efficiency of a home and provide guidance for the installation of new apparatus such as heat pumps and solar panels. Retrofit West is teamed with several firms that perform the surveys such as FutureProof https://www.futureproof.uk.net/our-services/
It is obviously essential to be properly informed before embarking on major works, but are these retrofitting companies the best source of advice, considering they typically charge £800 + VAT for their services?
