Android - synching photos

I know from doing a search that this has been discussed previously. However, I couldn't really make head nor tail of it and need to be totally sure as to what I'm doing.
Will Backup-up Google photos (as seen if I look via my pc browser), ever be deleted / removed without me being asked for each and every one?
I did a Factory reset on my phone. Logging back on to my Google account it automatically reinstated everything from my last backup (as it does). Not just photos, but everything. Unfortunately, this 'last Back-up' was from January. So, I now have a phone, accurate as at January. If I click 'Google Photos', there is nothing beyond January.
If I was to 'Back-up' now, (the whole phone) would it amend my cloud to look like my phone?
Am ok to simply 'Synch all photos' and it will simply match my phone to what's on my cloud?
Thanks

If you set your Android phone up properly everything related to it gets backed up without you having to do anything. If your phone hasn't backed up since January then that usually either you turned it off (by accident or otherwise) or its had no internet connection of any sort, or you've done something to it (by accident/app or otherwise) that interferes with this process. Its documented here:https://support.google.com/android/answer/2819582?hl=en - "Your backup data (except what you back up to Google Photos) is erased if you don't use your device for 57 days or you turn off Android Backup."If you back up now all that's happens is you have a configuration in the same state you already have it.The way backup works from your online account will just sync your phone with that. Your phone monitors when you have new ideo (or picture) and sends it upwards, but if you're restoring on a new phone it takes a few hours to come back down.0

So essentially, the fact that I switch my phone on and it shows a backup from January, doesn't matter. You're saying that when I press Google photos and 'synch' my phone will simply copy everything visible on the cloud to be visible on my phone? ie it won't copy everything visible on my phone to be visible on the cloud?0
