Chargeback for an online purchase, my likelihood of success?

Hi guys,

I bought an item online, and Id like to try a chargeback as the item is faulty. But Im not sure if Ill be successful, youll see why given the timeline:

I paid for an item online form a seller in Spain. The transaction was on 1 August. (He made me pay it into his wife's personal account, which I found a bit dodgy!)

I received the item on 6 October, but its not right and needs fixing. He said he'd pay £50 towards getting it fixed on the 9th October. I subsequently got it fixed and sent him a msg with my bank details, but he's not replying to my msgs.

I paid for it on my Chase Debit Mastarcard. What do you think the chances of me getting a chargeback is? Also, can I claim more than the £50 he said he would pay to rectify the issue (it actually cost me £90!)?

Thanks

I'm confused as you said he made you pay it into his wife's account but then say you used your Chase mastercard.

If it was by mastercard you can certainly ask, although I don't think you would get more back than you paid.

If it was transferred into his wife's account chargeback does not apply.

So is this from a actual retailer, or something like ebay?

How did you make a debit card payment to a personal bank account?

I can see them saying no, as you got it fixed rather than sending back. The fact they have not paid is not relevant to it being faulty.

    Thanks for comments, Ill clarify:

Hes got a website, so thats how I contacted him.

He gave me his bank details (he said it was his wife's. I may be wrong. Ill need to check back on communication) and I used my debit card to pay money into the account, using the Chase app.

Ive got communication with the seller showing that he acknowledged that he would pay for me to get it fixed. Getting it repackaged and shipped back to Spain to get it fixed seemed a bit OTT. Its quite a high value item.

This doesn't clarify anything. With his bank details you can make only a bank transfer, not a debit card payment.  For a card payment you don't need any bank details. And you need your Chase app only to see your card details.
If it was a bank transfer, chargeback is impossible. Chances of getting your money back are next to zero.

Ah of course. OK, I didnt quite get the distinction between a bank transfer and a debit card payment. OK, yes, my chance of chargeback is zero. :(
    Thanks

In that case. NO. You sent cash to a bank account. Not bought a item, I'm sorry to say.
