EDF warning

Options
I am moving away from EDF and checked the balance on my account to check how much of a refund I would get. When I saw that I was in debt according to them I checked my last bill and discovered that they had calculated this using an incorrect opening balance, overcharging by roughly £300.

How this is even possible I do not know - we have a smart meter! - but please be wary and check that the opening balance on your bill matches the closing balance on the previous one.

How long had you been with them?
Did you supply a opening reading?

  • I've been with them over two years. They installed the smart meter - so the opening balance then was zero - and the closing balance on the previous statement was correct.

Has EDF been using the readings ?   Look for the letters A,C, E or S or Our Read / Your Read.

How do EDF's readings compare with yours ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Oh yes, the bill before last was correct and EDF were using the smart meter data; the closing reading for day units was around 2500. They claim to be using smart meter data on the next, incorrect, bill too but have input the opening reading as 1900. I can only imagine that there is a human being transferring smart meter data into the billing system for some reason.

British gas were the same, even though they had the meter readings the final bill was using some ficticious inflated
    estimate.
