    Are you willing to see if they will still do the work? Might be easier than trying to get the money back. However understand if you're worried about the quality of work if things have already escalated. 

    If not, then in the letter before action, mention briefly the reason you are owed the money back (1-2 sentences only), and then the amount and give them 14 days to pay. Outline what will happen if they don't pay it in time (ie you are trying to settle out of court to save them money, but if forced to go to court, they will also be liable for court costs). 
  • roughly what CAB are also saying. Going to sort out over the weekend. I have to give them 21 days to respond.
