Had a "free" Drayton TRV+valves a while back. Regardless of how much PTFE tape I used, the darned tail just would net seal. A close look at the thread revealed it had a very rough finish, so used a spare I had floating around. Replacement sealed first time with minimal tape.
Always worth checking the state of the threads - You shouldn't need much tape or Plumber's Mait to get a good seal.

    Well done.
I wonder if Hawk White might be better, in future jobs, to ensure a seal? Just a smear, and the joint will move it into where it's needed as it's done up.
