Water Softener - regen problem ?

Does anyone have any experience of working on / fixing this sort of water softener ?
Its Kinetico Essential 8 - ( non electric)
I've become aware that it is not doing the normal re-gen process - used to notice it mornings at breakfast = but not noticed it for a while now but not really sure how often it should do it
As per instructions I can do a manual regen - by pressing down the central screw in dome and turning until it starts - then can hear water running for about 15 mins then water flowing out the drain for a 5 or more mins.
While thats happening I can see the lower of the 2 white cogs rotating very slowly - so the water turbine seems to be detecting water flow at that time anyway
The white tube at the side has some sort of float and water pipe in ( or it is out ?) - checked for salt blocks blockages round that -I'm assuming thats the inlet water to top up the brine tank
Not sure how the brine makes its way into the actual (grey cylinder) chamber ?
But quite a lot of water in tank already
Looking for any help and suggestions please ?
