    A dash cam might not pick anything up on the side of a car.

    In a car park a decent front and rear camera should pick up the car that hit you, and the moment of your vehicle when it was hit.

    You can get ones with side cameras too, but they are difficult to install in most cases.

    Considering many cars have the cameras it's a shame most manufacturers don't build in deciding capability.
