Humming/whining from taps

The copper pipe going in to the tank at the top is a vent pipe from the hot water cylinder - No water will flow through this under normal conditions (aside from a small dribble when the tank heats up).

The white/pink pipe will be the cold water feed to the stopcock - Probably connected to the cold water pipe under the bath.

Just to say, we finally decided to get this fixed as the noise was getting worse, and the gas/plumber guy was coming anyway. It was the ballco c k in the water tank that needed replacing and the noises have gone.
