It's all to do with your attitude to risk, as with all insurance. I wouldn't have any luck unless it was bad, so since 2000 I've put extended warranties on all my cars.
VW Golf Mk 4 had more than enough repairs to cover the annual warranty cost; mainly windows kept falling out on its birthday due to cheap plastic retainer that wasn't strong enough and kept breaking. VW eventually fitted metal retainer. This was about a £250 repair each time, warranty cost about £200 per year if my memory serves me correct.
Porsche Cayman, no major issues but for a couple of years warranty cost was exceeded by repairs needed; e.g. replaced front radiators, front suspension/steering items a couple of times, glove box needing replacement due to opening damper failing (for some reason Porsche only sell the whole assembly!!). I kept the warranty going mainly due to internet scare stories about the engines needing rebuilds.
2 x BMW i3, if the electrics go wrong, not the main battery, it can cost over £7k to fix. First one I had, an early version, was forever in garage for minor, but common, issues such as electric seats failing, reversing camera, front suspension gaiters torn, fuel filling sensors failing. Touchwood current one seems to be running OK apart from the front top mounts being replaced just after I got it.
Yes, overall I have spent more on warranties on the Porsche and BMW than the current list of repairs, but I can sleep at night knowing anything really expensive is covered.

Any example of this was my air conditioning, which failed due to a evap core, that in itself is not a huge deal, however it meant the dashboard coming out...Auto boxes from German cars can cost upwards of 5K not including the work for a new one...Timing chain breaking on a newish Jag and it's probably not worth fixing it.2
