35mph in 30

As above, 10% + 2 is the starting point for action. The "tolerance", for those who like to think of it that way, is 10% plus ONE mphTooManyPoints said:The "10% + 2mph" tolerance you mention is explained in the guidance on speeding enforcement which was issued by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) in 2010. It was adopted by the National Police Chiefs' Council when it replaced the ACPO in 2015. Here's a link to it. You will see a table at paragraph 9.6 showing the various tolerances for each speed limit:
It may also be worth saying that the guidelines also say "These guidelines do not and cannot replace a police officer's discretion" [Para 9.7}0 -
When you've never gone so much a 1mph over the limit mate or never done anything illegal in your life come back with your pointless comment. Anyone with a licence who claims to have never gone over the limit is a liar.boxosox said:
I don't think breaking the limit and risking people's lives is being a good citizen.
FYI. I was the only vehicle on the road with no houses or pedestrians.4 -
Hi, yes all the Info was correct just thought it was 36 not 35. I'll just hopefully have to do the course of shame.sevenhills said:Marky4040 said:
"10% +2 is when tickets can be given, so maximum is 34, 36 mph is 10% +3". Thanks very much - gutted.chrisw said:Have you had the notice yet? There's also the speedometer error so your neighbour who says he was doing 35 might only have been doing a touch over 30, whereas if you've actually been nabbed at 35, it's likely your speedo was touching 40.
Yes I've filled out the "who was driving" like a good little citizen. It's a shame the same force didn't even come to see me when my car got stolen....
If you have seen my other thread, did it state the time of the offense and was it correct?0 -
I quite agree. Everybody at some time has exceeded the speed limit in their car. Most deliberately do it, some do it because they aren't aware of the speed limit and some because they weren't aware how fast they were going.Marky4040 said:

The UK regulations, based on EU ones say:The regulation states that speedometers must never underreport a vehicle's speed, while it must never overreport by more than 110% of the actual speed + 6.25mph.
So if a calibrated device catches you, your Speedo would have indicated at least what the device said.
I know from timing my car passing something like 15 marker posts on a motorway with the cruise control set at 70, I was actually averaging 65.

What does "got caught" mean in this context? Did the police send him (or her) a NIP and then just take no further action?Marky4040 said:... as a neighbour got caught at 35 but didn't receive anything...
(I did get caught at 35 in a 30 a couple of months ago and chose to do the course that was offered. I'd be a bit annoyed too if somebody else "got caught" and suffered no consequences at all ... )0 -
Until a couple of years (or thereabouts) ago, the Metropolitan Policed enforced speeding from (Limit+10%+3mph). I'm told they have now reverted to the NPCC's guidance.0
