PCN toll road charge notice

Not too sure if you guys can help or if i'm posting in the right place to appeal a toll charge.

Location: A533 (Mersey Gateway Bridge) and the A557 (Silver Jubilee Bridge) southbound

Merseyflow have issued me a PCN letter on the 06/11/23 and the offence was dated the 21/10/23.They have advised I basically have failed to pay for using the toll road. At the time I was travelling back from Liverpool airport so I'm not familiar with the road or area and don't remember clearly seeing the sign and was just following my sat nav which directed me that way, I also have my satnav to avoid toll roads so was unsure why it took me on a toll road anyway. I have googled and researched this bridge/toll road and there's a lot of other drivers who have had the same issue and have a lot of complaints, I'm also sure there's not clear signs to say how to pay etc.

I think I've read that if you contact them now they will let you pay the original crossing charge. If that doesn't work .....

..... as we major on private parking tickets here, PePiPoo will be your best bet for council tickets. Register there but please note that a Hotmail address won't work - try using a throwaway Gmail account instead if you do have trouble registering, and post a new thread; here's your link:

Read the sticky 'Read this before you post' as well as reading through some of the other threads there ahead of posting your own details, to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need to post redacted photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the council (both sides, if appropriate), as they need to see all the small print.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

I don't think claiming you were blindly following a sat nav and not seeing any signs will do you any good.

I made a thread on there and an admin/moderator said the forum isn't really monitored anymore as site goes down for weeks at times etc.

I didn't say it would, i'm just giving my side of the story. I'm wondering if I can appeal it like a parking notice and say I wasn't the driver or something

Reply on your pepipoo thread if you need more help. Replying brings your thread back up to the top.

It doesn't matter if it's not "monitored". Have you seen how busy it is with replies from good people?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Well that would clearly be a lie.

And no, these are in a totally different sphere to the private parking world. I wouldn't suggest telling blatant lies.

Also, if you choose to lie then you will have to say who the driver was. Who are you planning to fit up? Just pay the fine and accept it before you dig yourself into a hole.

I use it daily. There are ample signs about paying the toll.

    Also try ftla.uk

there was a period earlier this year when PePiPoo “died” and it’s future was uncertain as the domain hadn’t been renewed and accounts hadn’t been filed.

This appears to have been resolved, but ftla was set up in the meantime and is still used/monitored/admi’d

PePiPoo uses old tech and also has no active admin.

Both sites are currently up and running and offering the usual high standard of help and advice although one or two members seem to have exclusively moved to ftla

Ok, this sites called money saving expert, follow the advice about posting on pepipoo and ftla
then follow the advice from there and Umkomaas plus whatever you see on there and get in touch to see if they can sort things out.

Do not mention you were "following the sat nav/app"  these things are nothing more than a guide and people who blindly follow them can get stuck - sometimes literally, mentioning the satnav told me to do it is a distraction from the real issue in that you were unfamiliar with the road / area and were unaware of a toll

I use the Dartford crossing every once in a while, and there are plenty of signs about that , however if i was totally unaware then i woundt have a clue what it meant by "dart charge"
