WiFi for Kindle Fire

I only use one app (BorrowBox for reading books), and sometimes go to websites.
BorrowBox stopped connecting with the Internet, but I could still access websites with the browser.
After resetting the device a few times, I reset everything I could see for the app, but BorrowBox would still not connect to the Internet.
I uninstalled the app but then could not access the Appstore to reinstall.
I did a factory reset for the device, but still couldn't access the Appstore.
WiFi still works fine for my laptop.
The device seems to be recognising the WiFi (it says there is Excellent Strength), but I cannot now get any access to the Internet on the device.
I had tried switching Airplane mode on and off a few times.
It's a 5th generation Fire.

Is there some setting on the Fire that could be stopping access?

It's unlikely to be a setting on the tablet.
Switching airplane mode off and on again won't make a difference but completely switching the device off and on again might.
Can other devices access the WiFi okay?
If so it might be worth forgetting the network and then joining again.
Another option is creating a wireless hotspot using a phone and connecting the tablet to that to see if it works.
  • I had already tried all those except for the wireless hotspot. As everything pointed to a problem with the Fire, and not the supply of WiFi, I didn't think that would prove anything new.
However, I went to a library and was able to connect to WiFi there.
And then, when I got back, I was again able to connect to the apartments WiFi ??
The connection was lost shortly afterwards though.
So the problem is that the Fire will only intermittently connect to the WiFi, whereas other devices have no problem connecting.
Does this suggest that one of the electonic components used for WiFi is in the process of degrading?
