Hi Gers,
I've been up since silly o'clock so I may go back for a nap in a minute, Steve is off to golf.
I went back to the podiatry place be fitted with my custom made orthotic inserts to correct my gait and bring my left leg up to the same length as my right. They're not uncomfortable but I don't really like the way they lift my heels out of the back of my shoes, I'm sure I'll get used to them though and it will be worth it not to get a re-occurence of the Morton's neuroma. I just have to remember to swap them around when I change shoes.
We've been looking at having solar panels on the roof lately (I say we, I'm the supportive onlooker while Steve does all the number crunching). I must say it's a bit of a minefield but it looks as if Steve's research has paid off and we will be getting a good system for a reasonable price. The rear of the house faces due south so it should generate quite a bit of electricity and we are getting a battery to store it once it is generated. It will take a few years to recoup the set-up costs but we want to help the planet as well if we possibly can.
Today I want to sort out Esben's craft shelves which have become very jumbled again, I think I need to think of some different storage solutions for some of it.
Have a good day.
PS. I hope this posts properly, none of my paragraphs appeared last time.12 -
Morning all
Pouring with rain here again it’s getting a bit worrying as the roads are so flooded one is still impassable from the last lot of rain, yesterday it took me an hour to do a 15 minute journey 😳 not going to be any better today I think !
I am off to collect Rob today and take him to work we are making poppies at the moment for a display which is quite therapeutic and he loves cutting up the different materials.
Dinner tonight will be pork belly strips with a hm hot sauce and rice and peas. Our DW seems to have broken 😩 OH thinks it’s the heating element so is trying to get someone in to fix it, I hate not having one so the sooner the better for me.
Have good days all and take care xx10 -
I've made it downstairs, it's always a bit of a struggle in winter and it'll only get more difficult.Snoozer - you're having a real time of it being topped and tailed this week.
My paragraphs are always odd when I post from my iPad, which is why it's often edited. I think that putting a return in on the laptop doesn't show but works, whilst on the iPad it's a bit whimsical.
Ruby - I hope that your roads are OK today.Today I have my pool session so I've got the washing machine ready to switch on when I get home. It'll be interesting to see how my biab stands up to being in the pool. Apart from that I have no plans. The swamped road has had another debris slide yesterday during the heavy rain so the council are now telling us that it'll be mid-December before it's fully open. They are getting on with the new emergency diversion but who know how long that'll take, mind you, they are doing a huge amount of work day and night so there's no room to moan.9 -
Morning All
Thank you for your kind words re DMIL.
We are back off to Kent shortly to sort her room and to deliver Thank you cards to both homes. One she had lived in for 4 years and the nursing home for one week.
I have started all the calls you need to make but still waiting to hear from the registrar.
Snoozer hope your inserts help with your gait
Gers enjoy the pool session
Ruby have a good time with Rob, did you hear back about his mum's lack of food for him

Morning everyone
Nice bright morning here but very cold when I went out to the bin. I'm expecting a man to put my smart meter in this morning - he's due between 8 and 10. They didn't turn up last time and Eon credited my account with £30 so I don't really mind if he doesn't turn up again! I'm saying 'man' I suppose I should be saying smart meter person really.
Work at lunchtime and today we're going to make some chocolate chip cookies - fingers crossed they turn out ok.
I tidied the cupboard under the stairs yesterday after a lady came and bought little one's pushchair - it was full of all sorts. There's 2 big boxes of Vogue magazines which eldest DD collected - they've been there since I moved here 8 years ago and she doesn't want them. I thought I might ask at if any of the charity shops want them.
Well I'm going to get on - I've got some things to list on Ebay. Hope everyone has a good day today x9 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS. We have a lovely start this morning with some blue sky and sunshine amongst the cloud! But sadly it does feel a bit chillier and forecast to get colder.
I had a lovely bus trip out yesterday and went to Ilkley (baht 'at TAFF!!) as planned. My hopes of spotting Christmas gifts didn't happen and my only purchase was a couple of non-slip kitchen trays as my current ones have been an embarrassment for long enough! But we enjoyed a nice lunch and, as usual, much chatting was done whilst making inroads into our wine.
I have all 3 DGDs here for tea after school. It seems ages since I had all 3 here together. Eldest is having a couple of days home from Uni. She will go back down home to see to the indoor rabbits but the other 2 are sleeping over. (I still have the beds to make up) DD and her DP are having a couple of nights away in the Lakes.
Oh well, jobs await so have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. I hope the flooded roads for some of you don't cause too many problems. SNOOZER I hope you soon get used to the new insole thingies and they help. Take care all and be safe xx

Morning all
, thanks Gers. Haven't 'seen' nmlc for a bit, hope she's ok.
Lots more sorting and chucking yesterday but we can't progress further until the new wardrobe innards are ready, and then the sliding doors can be ordered. After school we made the hour long drive further north after picking up DGS, nearly panicking when the car wouldn't start! A new battery has been ordered to pick up today.Had to swiftly transfer the snack bag, wellies, big coats etc. into the van, then we swapped to the camper van at DS2s. He was very excited and was thrilled to score, it's a different team to his usual Saturday group & is run by an ex pro, so he gets some interesting venues.Snoozer, glad your orthotics are making a difference. I have been using them since my early 40s after I started getting a lot of knee pain, after a scan they said I had 1 leg slightly shorter than the other . I know what you mean about shoes though. I don't know why but these days I can make do with the S choll orthotic inserts which don't come as high up, and I have quite a few sets so I don't have to swap them around.Gers, shame about the road delay.Ruby, making poppies sounds goodI'm cooking a chicken for tea tonight I think, though the snacky picnic type bits last night were ok for a change. Although there are several options available after my delivery. I'll check the dates on them before I decide.Hope you all have a good day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)10 -
Morning all and thanks for the start @Gers x Enjoy your pool session later.
I've been in the London office these past two days - only 12 days to go now and only 3 of them in the office. I have been tasked with finding a venue for a Christmas do, that I won't actually be at. Just bonkers.
Hope the shoe inserts help @snoozer. How are Esben's crafts stored now? Would a drawer unit be better? I too think about solar panels but we will look at that with our next house I think as we're only planning another 3 years here.
Enjoy the cookie baking @dp1 mmmmmm
Go steady on those roads @RedRuby1231 xx
Dinner tonight is a new recipe from Slimming Eats call $1m spaghetti. Really looking forward to that later. Will need to grab some salad at lunchtime, whilst dropping off soft plastic recycling. Has made such a difference to our wheelie bin - amazing.
DDad has an appointment next week to discuss chemo and radiotherapy. He seems okay, bit moany, but otherwise okay. Mum had a pre-cataract assessment on Monday with the op happening Friday next week. DSis will take her. Funeral of my friends sister is my first day in my new job, so I won't be able to go, which upsets me greatly. I will need to write to her to explain.
Have a good day all and hugs to all those in need.

Snoozer Hope the inserts do the trick and ward off any more discomfort for you

Ruby Hopefully your roads are not so waterlogged take care out and about
Rosy Glad you got the car sorted and hopefully the battery is in today what a palaver moving everything about
Snoozer We looked at solar panels but Martin said you have to stay in your house for at least 10 years for it to be worth it and hopefully we will be moving in the next 5 otherwise i would definitely get them

Morning all
I would have been on earlier but we had the chimney sweep arrive at 8.30am and he's only just left; boy, that man can talk! But it was all very interesting and he's going to come back in March to put a better bird proof cowl on the top of the chimney. I'm now recovering with a second cup of tea and a piece of toast, before getting going for the day.
I'll probably start with the ironing. I was thinking of attempting to make hummus for the first time, as I've a couple of tins of chick peas in the cupboard, but we have some out of date ham so DH has offered to make an omelette for lunch, to use it up. The hummus might get made tomorrow.
Have a good day everyone.8
