house deeds

hello all,

a question! my parents own there house but only my fathers name is on the deeds, how would they go about adding my mothers name to the deeds? is this a simple process? or would they have to go to a solicitors and get ripped off?

    you have to go through solicitor

    think it's called equity transfer.

    shouldn't cost more then a couple hundred quid though

    thanks for your replys. basically my dad wants to make sure that if anything should happen to him that the house will be transfered to my mum. i think its more for peace of mind more than anything. they have been married 30+ years and my mother contributed to half the morgage payments.

    Shouldn't be a problem and there won't be any stamp to pay as transfers between spouses are stamp exempt AFAIK.

    Even if he didn't leave a will, it would probably would transfer to mum anyway, under the laws of intestacy. But he should probably have a will anyway. And he may have IHT considerations (does he?).

    It all rather sounds like an a couple of hours with a solicitor would be money well spent - rather than just focussing on the house issue. There may well be "other issues" too.
