In trying to discover why Yahoo keeps locking me out of my accounts I've discovered my IP address is giving wrong info. Default location is set correct but websites are all saying I live in Thetford! Anyone know how to fix this? Its the IP as message on Yahoo page stated location set using IP

If the IP address is in the same country as your registered Yahoo account there should not be an issue at all.
Mine varies within a 60 mile radius of my home.0 -
The IP address here is the one assigned by your ISP, and should not be relied on to provide your location. Mine is all over the place too, and when I was on a 4G Mobile Broadband dongle it moved around even more, despite me always being in the same physical location. You could ask your ISP if there's anything that can be done - some offer a fixed IP address, though I think most charge for it now.1

Thanks for replies, thought I'd finally figured out why Yahoo keeps locking me out but looks like its not the IP then. Now having trouble paying with bank transfers with TSB as they keep blocking payments!
Something's triggering security issues, but what??0 -

What device and security are you using?
VPN, including the Apple mild VPN included on most their devices these days, can both change your apparent location but also trigger various security responses because the IP the other side see is well known to be used by VPN providers and so some get nervous not being able to see the real IP.
IP is always a relatively crude mechanism for geolocation beyond country... even country can be unreliable using corporate systems who's networks (physical, virtual or other) may result in you appearing as if you are in the US/Head Office country etc.2 -
You can't post comments to YouTube or get insurance quotes on Compare the Market if you are using a VPN. I occasionally use one, and when I forget to switch it off, I have had these problems. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1

I am having this problem too! So frustrating whenever I Google something for shopping it suggests me american sites and in dollars. My Google search results are set to the UK does anybody know how to fix?0

A VPN tells websites that you are not where you really are. (Even that you are in a different country). That can cause problems. You could always set a static IP, either from each device or from your router.Google how to do thatSetting a static IP is basically the opposite of using a VPN.0

On some sites using Safari I get refused entry because I'm using a VPN when I'm not
Using Chrome I don't get the same problem0 -
I don't use a VPN. Yahoo's help section states the reason for lock outs as 'too many failed log in attempts, IP address hidden or changing, logging in from different locations'. I'm using Windows 10 Microsoft Edge with Bing, Sky broadband. Checked my Microsoft account activity and same shows in there with various locations - correct local but also my old address area, and Thetford. All correspond to me signing in. Weather, maps etc all show correct location but websites such as Amazon, Ebay etc all say I live in Thetford.0
