Packlink - UPS Delivery arrived damaged. Worried now

I sold an expensive microwave through eBay and delivered via their Packlink link.

This was delivered via UPS to the buyer in less than 24 hours but massively damaged. I did ensure the parcel for its auction value but I am now reading horror stories about Packlink and insurance claims

Can anyone offer me some hope?

Regards

Tet

You may need to be persistent and explain the situation to them a few times, but as long as you used the correct courier and we’re definitely covered for the item you sent, and sent it as per their boxing instructions you should be fine. Most of the horror stories are because items were sent that weren’t covered, Packlink is just a broker, the terms and conditions of the corpus ire you used are important.

Firstly if it has been delivered get buyer to make sure they save all the packaging, that might show damage that is completely out of your control, but also demonstrates you followed packing procedures.

Did you check the packagung instructions?

It was a microwave in its original box, delivered six weeks ago from AO. The box has clearly been dropped on its side. The box was haevily damaged at one end but the "proof of delivery" picture was of the box left on the step photographed from the other end

I'm not sure that this was adequately packaged I'm afraid.  Items like this will be transported with a number of boxes strapped together on a pallet.  This would be fine as the pallet will be too heavy to throw around and will be handled by forklifts.
A single box is much more vulnerable and needs to be packaged in a strong outer box to protect it.  It is going to be loaded and unloaded several times, have to survive conveyor belts in sorting depots and the light weight box it came in offered little protection.  I hope that I'm wrong, but I'm sorry to say that Packlink and UPS are likely to resist paying out for your damaged microwave.
  • Did you photograph the package before shipping? I have found this very useful for insurance claims and now, no matter how big or small, take a quick photo of the box to show it has been carefully packaged in the event of a later damage claim.
