Velux external shutters/blinds - stopping rain noise???

Options
I want to fit two new triple glazed units in our mainbedroom but my OH has concerns regarding rain noise.  Atm we have a Velux triple glazed unit in our en-suite and although its very quiet when it rains, you can still hear it!  I could live with it quite easily in our bedroom too, but unfortunately she who must be obeyed says she can't.

You can get hard or soft external shutters that are solar remote operated so just wondering if anyone has experience of Velux windows fitted with external shutters or blinds?

I've been looking at external shutters but have the opposite issue - last thing I want is to NOT hearing the rain as that's, to me at least, one of the joys of having velux in that I get al almost "under canvas" rain experience.  All I want is a better shading from excessive sunshine!!!

Unfortunately this is my biggest issue with velux. I got used to the light rain but when it was a storm it was like someone was throwing rocks at the window.

We bought velux awning blinds mainly for the summer to keep out the sun which I loved and they kind of dulled the sound, but nothing ever stopped it unfortunately.

Thanks for the input housebuyer143.  I guess there are a lot of variables with roof windows.  I know that with Velux there are many different glazing combinations from plain double glazed to triple glazed with extra heat insulation, Laminated, Noise reduction, Rain noise reduction etc etc so I guess that from the start, any of those combinations can make a difference to the sound of rain from outside.

Velux also do a number of different blinds both internal and external and you mention external awning blinds which you say has made some difference although not perfect, but they also do hard external shutters called 'anti heat blackout shutters' as well as a type of soft external shutter which they call 'anti heat blackout blinds'.

I appreciate that nothing is going to 100% completely eliminate ALL sound but i guess what I'm after is what combination is the most effective at preventing rain noise.

Appreciate any further comments or experiences.
